“The Jack” és una cançó d’AC/DC amb un toc bluesy i un humor sarcàstic que tracta sobre les malalties venèries, concretament la gonorrea, que en l’argot australià es coneix com “the jack”. Originalment es va incloure en el segon àlbum australià de la banda, “T.N.T.”, i més tard va aparèixer en la versió internacional de “High Voltage” al maig de 1976, que combinava els seus dos primers discos australians.

La cançó es va inspirar en les experiències de la banda vivint en una casa plena de dones “amables”, on tots els membres del grup van acabar infectats. Bon Scott gaudia explicant la història que hi havia darrere del tema. Recordava un concert el 1976 on les dones en qüestió eren a primera fila, sense saber què els esperava. Quan la banda va arribar a la tornada de la cançó, Scott va començar a assenyalar-les una per una mentre cantava “She’s got the jack”, deixant-les completament avergonyides. Angus Young més tard va explicar que, després d’aquell incident, les dones del públic corrien cap al fons de la sala cada cop que sonava la cançó.

Scott també recordava haver anat al llit amb una dona tot i saber que estava infectat, pensant que no li passaria la malaltia. Poc després, ella va dormir amb el bateria Phil Rudd i el va contagiar. Setmanes més tard, la dona va enviar a Rudd una factura mèdica de 35 dòlars pel tractament. Però en lloc de pagar, Scott es va venjar d’una manera ben seva: durant un concert, la va cridar a l’escenari mentre tocaven “The Jack” i va anunciar a tothom que ell era el veritable responsable del deute. Aquesta combinació d’humor cruel i històries reals definia els primers anys d’AC/DC, amb Scott escrivint lletres que eren tan grolleres com còmiques.

A nivell de lletra, The Jack està plena de dobles sentits i metàfores de pòquer, “If I’d known what she was dealin’ out, I’d have dealt it back” (Si hagués sabut el què ella estava repartint, hauria tornat enrera). En les actuacions en directe, la cançó sovint incloïa un striptease d’Angus Young, cosa que li va donar una fama encara més provocadora. La versió d’estudi acaba amb el so d’una audiència hostil que xiula i escridassa el grup, amb Bon Scott tancant la cançó amb un comentari burleta: “Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the show!” (Gràcies! “The Jack” is a bluesy, tongue-in-cheek AC/DC track about venereal disease—specifically gonorrhea, which in Australian slang is called “the jack.” Originally released in Australian second album “T.N.T.”, it later appeared on the international version of “High Voltage” (May 1976), which combined their first two Australian albums.

The song was inspired by the band’s experiences living in a house full of “friendly” women, where everyone in the band ended up infected. Bon Scott relished telling the story behind the song, recalling a 1976 gig where the women in question were in the front row, unaware of what was coming. As the band reached the chorus, Scott pointed at each of them while singing, “She’s got the jack,” much to their horror. Angus Young later added that after that incident, women in the audience would rush to the back whenever the song started.

Scott recalled sleeping with a woman knowing he was infected, and assuming he wouldn't give her the virus. Shortly afterward she slept with drummer Phil Rudd and infected him. A few weeks later, she sent Rudd a $35 medical bill for the treatment. In true Bon Scott style, he got his revenge by calling her on stage during a performance of “The Jack” and announcing to the crowd that he was actually the one who owed her the money. This kind of humor and raw storytelling defined AC/DC’s early years, with Scott often drawing from real-life experiences for lyrics that were equal parts crude and comedic. 

Lyrically, the song is a clever mix of innuendo and poker metaphors (“If I’d known what she was dealin’ out, I’d have dealt it back”). Performed live, “The Jack” often featured a striptease from Angus Young, adding to the track’s notorious reputation. The studio version ends with the sound of a hostile club audience booing and jeering, with Scott cheekily signing off: “Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the show!”

El títol de la cançó fa referència a la trinitrotoluè (TNT), un compost explosiu, famós pels dibuixos animats del Correcamins, cosa que encaixa amb la seva lletra rebel i els seus riffs poderosos.

“T.N.T.” is a 1975 hard rock song by AC/DC written by Bon Scott, Angus Young, and Malcolm Young. Originally exclusive to Australia, later gained global recognition when AC/DC’s first two Australian albums were combined into “High Voltage” for international release. “T.N.T.” was released as a single in 1976, reaching No. 19 on the Australian Kent Music Report Singles Chart. This was one of AC/DC’s first singles with Bon Scott on vocals, following the departure of their original singer, Dave Evans. 

The raw, high-energy sound of the album “High Voltage” was achieved by recording right after gigs, with production by Harry Vanda and George Young (brother of Angus and Malcolm). The album fared well in Europe but received mixed reviews in America. 

The song’s title refers to Trinitrotoluene (TNT), an explosive compound, famously depicted in Road Runner cartoons, fitting its high-energy, rebellious lyrics and powerful riffs. 

T.N.T. became a live staple, featuring Scott’s rebellious lyrics and explosive energy. It was one of the main songs in the repertoire that helped launch their first UK headlining tour, “Lock Up Your Daughters,” in 1976.

Elli Robert Fitoussi, més conegut pel seu nom artístic F. R. David, és un artista de pop francès, nascut a Tunísia el 1947. Va començar la seva carrera als anys 60, tocant en diverses bandes franceses, abans d’endinsar-se en el prog rock com a guitarrista de Vangelis durant els anys 70. Va assolir l’èxit com a solista amb el seu single debut, “Words”. Tot i ser un èxit mundial, la cançó el va encasellar com a baladista, cosa que va perjudicar la seva carrera com a artista de synth pop. Va llançar tres àlbums als anys 80, però cap va aconseguir entrar a les llistes. Això el va portar a retirar-se del focus mediàtic i a treballar com a compositor per a altres artistes. El seu últim àlbum, “Midnight Drive”, es va publicar el 2013.

“Words” is a Europop ballad recorded by French singer-songwriter F. R. David in 1982. The songs music was written by David, with the lyrics by former Jay and the Americans members, Sandy Deanne and Marty Sanders. The song was a massive hit throughout Europe, topping the charts in Belgium, Austria, Finland, Denmark, Italy, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and Germany. When released in the UK, it hit #2 behind Spandau Ballet's “True”. In the United States, the song sold well, but couldn’t get a lot of airplay, causing it to stall at #62 on the Hot 100.

Elli Robert Fitoussi, better known by the stage name of F. R. David, is a French synth pop artist born in French Tunisia in 1947. He started off in the 1960s with a range of French bands, before drifting into prog rock as guitarist for Vangelis in the 1970s. He gained success as a solo artist with his debut single, “Words”. A massive worldwide seller, it pigeonholed David as a balladeer, effectively killing his career as a synth pop artist. Three albums, all released in the 1980s failed to chart, and David left the spotlight to move behind the scenes as a songwriter for other acts. His last album, “Midnight Drive” was released in 2013. “Alive and Kicking” es va publicar com el primer single del setè àlbum de Simple Minds, “Once Upon a Time”. Va ser un gran èxit, arribant al número 3 del Billboard Hot 100 als EUA, al número 4 al Canadà i al Top 5 en diversos països europeus. La cançó va marcar un moment àlgid en la carrera de la banda, seguint l’èxit de l’àlbum “Sparkle in the Rain” (1984), que havia generat tres èxits al Top 10 del Regne Unit. Amb una energia vitalista i triomfal, Jim Kerr la descriu com una peça plena d’imatges cinematogràfiques, més que no pas una simple seqüència d’acords.

Després de l’èxit massiu de “Don’t You (Forget About Me)”, la banda sentia pressió per crear un altre tema impactant que estigués a l’altura. El productor Jimmy Iovine els va animar a escriure una cançó èpica. Tot va començar amb els acords i la introducció de Mick MacNeil, que immediatament van posar la pell de gallina a Kerr. El videoclip es va rodar a Upstate New York, prop de Hunter, a North–South Lake, a les Muntanyes Catskill. Part de les imatges es van gravar a l’antic emplaçament del Catskill Mountain House, un lloc icònic amb vistes espectaculars. Dirigit per Zbigniew Rybczyński (que també va dirigir “All the Things She Said”), el vídeo mostra la banda actuant enmig d’un paisatge natural impressionant.

“Alive and Kicking” was released as the lead single from Simple Minds’ seventh album, “Once Upon a Time”. It was a major hit, reaching #3 on the US Billboard Hot 100, #4 in Canada, and top five in several European countries. The song marked a high point for the band, following the success of their 1984 album “Sparkle in the Rain”, which had three UK Top 10 hits. The song carries a joyful, life-affirming energy, and Kerr describes it as a track filled with strong, cinematic imagery rather than just a collection of chords.

After the massive success of “Don’t You (Forget About Me)”, the band felt pressure to deliver another event song that could match its impact. Producer Jimmy Iovine pushed them to create something epic. The song began with Mick MacNeil’s chords and intro, which immediately gave Jim Kerr a “hair on the back of the neck” moment. Over time, they developed the track, with Robin Clark’s backing vocals sealing the final version.

With MTV’s influence, it wasn’t enough to have just a good song—they needed an anthem. Jimmy Iovine pushed them to keep refining the track, adding more elements until it had the right big, cinematic feel. The final mix was completed early morning in Manhattan. Kerr took a walk with his Sony Walkman, listening to the track as the sun rose, and realized it would be a hit. Originally, Kerr resisted singing “You turn me on”, thinking it was too cheesy, but Iovine insisted, saying it would make the song a million-seller. Kerr reluctantly kept it—and it turned out Jimmy was right.

The music video was filmed in Upstate New York, near Hunter, at North–South Lake in the Catskill Mountains. Part of the video was shot at the overlook where the old Catskill Mountain House once stood. Directed by Zbigniew Rybczyński, who also directed “All the Things She Said”, the video features the band performing in a stunning natural setting.
