"Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" és una cançó del duo anglès Wham!, llançada per primera vegada com a senzill al Regne Unit el 14 de maig de 1984. Es va convertir en el seu primer número u al Regne Unit i als Estats Units. Va ser escrita i produïda per George Michael.

Andrew Ridgeley vivia a casa amb els seus pares fins i tot després formar part de Wham!, i la explicació era molt simple: estaven de gira molt de temps, així que era més fàcil que mantenir la seva pròpia llar buida. Ell i George Michael van utilitzar una habitació de la casa per fer les seves demos. Un dia, Ridgeley tenia por de quedar-se dormit així que va deixar una nota per a la seva mare a la seva porta. Va escriure: "Wake me up up" (Desperta'm), i en adonar-se que va duplicar una paraula, va acabar la frase amb "before you go go" (abans que te'n vagis vagis). George Michael ho va trobar brillant, i va decidir utilitzar-ho com a títol d’una cançó. Michael va escriure la cançó i es va convertir en el primer numero 1 de Wham!, tan a Gran Bretanya com a Estats Units.

Aquesta cançó parla d'un amant que demana a la seva parella que no se'n vagi sense ell. El cantant demana que el desperti abans que la seva parella marxi, vagi on vagi, perquè no es vol perdre l'oportunitat d'estar junts. El "jitterbug" simbolitza l'energia entre ells, fent que ballar sigui el que els mantindrà connectats. En definitiva, la cançó és una súplica perquè la parella del cantant es quedi i gaudeixi amb ell de la nit, en lloc de marxar.

La cançó s'obre amb quatre repeticions de la paraula "jitterbug", amb espetecs de dits entremig. El jitterbug era un ball popular als anys trenta del segle XX; combinat amb els tocs dels dits i la lletra que es remunta a una època més innocent, cosa que ajuda a donar a la cançó una sensació retro. Un altre picada d’ull retro es la frase: "You make the sun shine brighter than Doris Day" (Fes que el sol brilli més que Doris Day), que fa referència a la cantant i actriu que va ser popular als anys 40 i 50.

Michael era un amant de la Motown, i "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" és el seu clar intent de replicar la màgia de la línia de producció de la companyia americana. Michael va dir a Rolling Stone que volia que fos "un disc de pop molt enèrgic que tingués tots els millors elements dels discos dels anys 50 i 60". Molta gent feia homenatges a Motown a principis dels anys 80, però pocs d'ells eren tan descarats com "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go", amb el seu ritme alt, la sensació de benestar implacable, i els memorables ganxos instantànis marca de la casa. És una mena de celebració fetitxe dels americanismes anacrònics, llançada en una època en què els nord-americans estaven enamorats de la música sintetitzada britànica.

El vídeo musical de la cançó va ser dirigit per Andy Morahan. Mostra a la banda actuant per a un públic majoritàriament adolescents a la Brixton Academy al sud de Londres. La banda portava dissenys de samarretes de Katherine Hamnett que deien "CHOOSE LIFE".

“Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” is a song by the English duo Wham!, first released as a single in the UK on 14 May 1984. It became their first UK and US number one hit. It was written and produced by George Michael.

Andrew Ridgeley lived at home with his parents even after Wham! made it big, which isn't as lame as it sounds: they were on the road all the time, so it was easier than maintaining his own empty household (he and George Michael used a room in the house to make their demos). One day, Ridgeley needed a wake-up call, so he left a note for him mum on his door. He wrote, "Wake me up up" and realizing he duplicated a word, finished the sentence with "before you go go". George Michael thought it was brilliant, and decided to use it as the title of a song. Michael wrote the song and it became Wham!'s first number 1, both in Great Britain and in the United States.

This song is about a lover who is asking their partner not to leave without them. The singer is begging to be woken up before their partner goes wherever they're going, because they don't want to miss out on the experience of being together. The "jitterbug" symbolizes the energy between them, and dancing is the activity that will keep them connected. The song is a plea for the singer's partner to stay and enjoy the night, rather than just disappearing.

The song opens with four repetitions of the word "jitterbug," with finger snaps in between. The jitterbug was a popular dance in the 1930s; combined with the finger snaps and lyrics that harken back to a more innocent time, it helps give the song a retro feel. Another throwback: the line "You make the sun shine brighter than Doris Day", which refers to the singer-actress who was popular in the '40s and '50s.

Michael loved Motown, and “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” is his clear attempt at replicating the magic of the Hitsville USA production line. Michael told Rolling Stone that he wanted it to be “a really energetic pop record that had all the best elements of ’50s and ’60s records.” Plenty of people were making Motown homages in the early ’80s, but few of them were quite as blatant as “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go,” with its high-stepping beat and its relentless feel-good vibes and its big, instantly memorable hooks. It’s a sort of fetishy celebration of anachronistic Americanisms, released at a time when Americans were in love with British synth music.

The music video for the song was directed by Andy Morahan. It showcases the band performing for an audience of mostly teenagers at Brixton Academy in South London. The band was wearing Katherine Hamnett t-shirt designs that said "CHOOSE LIFE".

"Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" is one of those '80s songs that refuses to go away. It's catchy, easy to sing and often appears in comedy and entertainment films. The song is for fun, not to be taken seriously, and it perfectly achieved what it was created for, topping the charts around the world and turning Wham! in a trademark from the 80s.

"Our House" és una cançó de la banda anglesa de ska Madness i va ser escrita pel segon vocalista Chas Smash i el guitarrista Chris Foreman. Va ser llançada com a senzill principal del seu quart àlbum d'estudi "The rise and fall".

Aquesta cançó descriu una casa plena de bons records i plena d'activitat. És una oda nostàlgica a la innocència infantil, la família i la llar. En els versos, el cantant reflexiona sobre la dinàmica familiar que hi ha a casa seva. Reconeixen i aprecien els petits però importants moments que conformen les seves vides, des del pare vestint-se amb el millor vestit de diumenge fins a la germana que sospira mentre dorm. La tornada parla de la seva casa com el punt central de les seves vides, situada al mig del carrer. N'hi havia moltes com aquesta a Anglaterra, sobretot als anys 80, quan una economia dura va obligar a molts joves a viure amb els seus pares. La cançó està plena de nostàlgia alegre, però al mateix temps, el cantant sap que probablement hauria de sortir més de l’entorn familiar. Sentim la veu de la raó a la frase "alguna cosa et diu que t'has d'allunyar".

El vídeo de la cançó mostra a la banda com si fos una gorra de tela amb una família aixafada a una casa adossada. El bateria Dan "Woody" Woodgate va recordar a Q Magazine l'agost de 2008: "El tros on truquen a la porta i algú surt i diu: 'On són?' i els altres entren i tanquen la porta... Això és The Flintstones. Vam robar moltes idees als Keystone Kops i a Benny Hill".

El líder Suggs va recordar a The Daily Mirror el setembre de 2009: "Aquesta va ser la primera vegada que treballàvem amb l'arranjador de cordes David Bedford. Tenia clar el què feia falta als nostres discos i va fer grans coses per a nosaltres. Ara és estrany pensar que fossim tan filosòfics sobre coses tan quotidianes".

La cançó va tenir molt èxit i va entrar al top 10 de diversos països. Tan mateix va ser el major èxit de la banda a la llista del Billboard Hot 100 dels Estats Units.

"Our House” is a song by the English ska band Madness and was written by second lead vocalist Chas Smash and guitarist Chris Foreman. It was released as the lead single from their fourth studio album “The rise and fall”. 

This song describes a packed house filled with fond memories and bustling with activity. Is a nostalgic ode to childhood innocence, family and home. In the verses, the singer reflects on the family dynamics that exist in their home. They recognize and appreciate the small but important moments that make up their lives, from father dressing in his Sunday best to sister sighing in her sleep. The chorus speaks of their house as the central point of their lives, located in the middle of the street. There were many like it in England, especially in the '80s when a tough economy forced many young people to live with their parents. The song is filled with joyful nostalgia, but at the same time, the singer knows he should probably more out. We hear this voice of reason in the line "something tells you that you've got to move away from it". 

The song's video features the band as a cloth-cap wearing family squashed into a terraced house. Drummer Dan "Woody" Woodgate recalled to Q Magazine August 2008: "The knocking-on-the-door bit where somebody comes out, goes, 'Where are they?' and the others sneak in and close the door... That's The Flintstones. We stole lots of ideas from the Keystone Kops and Benny Hill".

Frontman Suggs recalled to The Daily Mirror September 18, 2009: "This was the first time we worked with the string arranger David Bedford. It was clear to him what our records needed and he did great things for us. It's strange now to think we were so philosophical about such everyday things."

The song charted within the top ten in several countries, and it was the band's biggest hit on the Billboard Hot 100. 

 

KAMILLE Feat NILE RODGERS - MUSCLE MEMORY

La llegenda de Chic uneix forces amb KAMILLE, la jove músic que ha escrit cançons per a Dua Lipa, Khalid i Little Mix, en el seu senzill autoproduït "Muscle Memory".

"Muscle Memory" s'afirma com un tema amb tint dels anys 80 que és més un pastitx que una paròdia. Tot i que la seva instrumentalització està arrelada en el so clàssic i nostàlgic de Motown, sona contemporani. La veu de Kamille és sublim, suau i amb ànima.

Kamille va comentar: "Aquesta cançó va ser la primera idea que vaig escriure i produir per al meu futur treball. Definitivament va guiar el camí cap a on em vull dirigir musicalment. Volia fer una cançó sobre aquelles nits de divendres solitàries que tots hem viscut quan trobes a faltar algú... Però ara s'ha convertit en la cançó que poso quan vull sortir i divertir-me. Que una llegenda com Nile Rodgers aparegui en una cançó feta completament per mi és un honor, i no puc esperar a què la gent escolti més del que vindrà".

Aquesta cançó sembla ser una cançó sobre l'enyorança d'un amor perdut i el desig de reconciliació. La lletra expressa la profunda connexió emocional de la cantant amb la seva relació passada, simbolitzada per la menció de "memòria muscular". En els versos, la cantant es representa sentint-se perduda i trencada emocionalment un dissabte a la nit sense la seva antiga parella. Expressa el seu anhel i la seva incapacitat per seguir endavant, afirmant que, per molt que ho intenti, no pot trobar una nova sensació ni algú que substitueixi el seu amor perdut. També ens transmet la pena i la tristesa pels errors passats.

La tornada reflecteix l'esperança de la cantant perquè torni el seu ex-amant, ja que s'imagina un escenari on el seu amor es restaura. Ens diu que el seu amor es trova al mateix lloc on era abans, destacant que el seu cor torna a bategar com "memòria muscular" quan està amb la seva antiga parella. La repetició de la frase "memòria muscular" suggereix que el mal d’amor que sent està profundament arrelat.

“Muscle Memory” Té una melodia clarament inspirada en el funk dels vuitanta amb una tornada enganxosa que t'envolta, i quan l'escoltes un parell de vegades t'acompanyarà allà on vagis durant tot el dia. La cançó pertany a l'anomenat moviment NU-disco en el qual Dua Lipa és una de les màxims exponents en l’actualitat.

El moviment NU-disco està clarament inspirat en la música disco i funk de finals dels 70 i principis dels 80. Fins i tot les Spice Girls al seu primer disc van tenir un record d'aquell funk amb la cançó "Something kinda Funny". Escoltant algunes d'aquestes noves cançons és inevitable que ens vinguin al cap grups com Shalamar, Odyssey, Chic o cantants com Patrice Rushen o Chaka Khan. Sembla doncs que no estem tan malament. 

KAMILLE Feat NILE RODGERS - MUSCLE MEMORY

The Chic legend joins forces with KAMILLE, the musician who has penned songs for Dua Lipa, Khalid and Little Mix, on her self-produced single “Muscle memory”. 

“Muscle Memory” asserts itself as an '80s-tinged track that's more a pastiche than a parody. While its instrumental's rooted in nostalgic, classic Motown gloss, it's contemporary. Kamille's vocals here are sublime, smooth, soulful and understated.

Kamille said: “This song was the first idea I wrote and produced from my upcoming body of work. It definitely steered the path for where I headed musically. I wanted to make a song about those lonely Friday nights we've all experienced when you're missing someone... But it's now turned into the song I put on when I wanna vibe and have fun lol! To have a legend like Nile Rodgers feature on a song made completely by myself is such an honour, and I can't wait for people to hear more of what's coming."

This track appears to be a song about longing for a lost love and the desire for reconciliation. The lyrics express the singer's deep emotional connection to their past relationship, symbolized by the mention of "muscle memory." In the verses, the singer is depicted feeling lost and emotionally broken on a Saturday night without their former partner. They express their longing and inability to move on, stating that no matter how hard they try, they can't find a new feel or someone to replace their lost love. The regret and sadness over past mistakes are also conveyed.

The chorus reflects the singer's hope that their ex-lover will return, as they imagine a scenario where their love is restored. They describe their love as being in the same place it used to be, emphasizing that their heart beats again like "muscle memory" when they are with their former partner. The repetition of the phrase "muscle memory" suggests that the heartache they feel is deeply ingrained and instinctual.

“Muscle Memory” It has a melody clearly inspired by the funk of the eighties with a catchy chorus that surrounds you, and when you listen to it a couple of times it will accompany you in your head wherever you go during the day. The song belongs to the so-called NU-disco movement in which Dua Lipa is one of the greatest current exponents. 

NU-disco movement is clearly inspired by the disco and funk music of the late 70s and early 80s. Even the Spice Girls on their first album had a memory for that funk with the song “Something kinda Funny”. Listening to some of these new songs it’s inevitable that groups like Shalamar, Odyssey, Chic or singers like Patrice Rushen or Chaka Khan come to mind. It seems that we are not so bad.
