"I Was Made For Lovin' You" és una cançó de la banda nord-americana de rock dur Kiss, publicada originalment al seu àlbum de 1979, "Dynasty". Va ser llançada com el primer senzill de l'àlbum.

"I Was Made for Lovin' You" es basa en l'estil disco que va ser popular a finals dels anys 70 als Estats Units. Segons la llegenda, els membres de la banda estaven en conflicte amb els seus productors, que volien que la banda canviés a un so més comercial. En resposta, la banda va argumentar que qualsevol persona podia escriure cançons de discoteca lucratives en poc temps. La història diu que la demo de la cançó es va completar poques hores després de l'aposta. 

Quan el single va sortir, la seva mera existència va ser considerada com una traïció pels seguidors del rock, i va afegir combustible a "Disco sucks!" un moviment que va sorgir al final de la dècada en contra de la música disco. Aquí hi havia els autors d'autèntiques odes al rock com "Rock and Roll All Nite" i "Detroit Rock City" que van fer el sacrilegi de posar un ritme mecanitzat de música disco cantant harmonies amb veu d'heli. Ara que el temps ens ha donat distància i la música disco ha passat per diferents fases de revaloració retrospectiva, és possible considerar aquesta cançó pel seus mèrits, divorciada de les expectatives dels seus autors i de les rígides línies divisòries socials que van convertir gèneres musicals diferents en faccions rivals. Resulta que en realitat és una melodia força increïble i, sens dubte, un dels millors singles que Kiss va publicar.

La cançó tracta d'un amor profund i apassionat entre dues persones que estaven destinades a estar juntes. La lletra expressa l'intens desig del cantant d'estar amb la seva amant i de lliurar-se completament l'un a l'altre. El cantant afirma que va ser fet per estimar la seva parella i viceversa. La tornada és especialment enganxosa, amb la repetició de la frase "I was made for lovin' you, baby / You were made for lovin' me / I can't get enough of you, baby / Can you get enough of me? " 

El cantant està expressant que mai en tindrà prou de la seva amant i com espera que ella senti el mateix. La cançó suggereix una forta atracció física entre els dos amants, però, també és evident que hi ha una connexió emocional més profunda entre ells, amb el cantant dient "Girl, I was made for you / And girl, you were made for me (Noia, vaig ser fet per a tu / I noia, tu vas ser feta per a mi)".

El vídeo musical va ser filmat el 20 de juny de 1979 a Savannah, Geòrgia i va ser dirigit per John Goodhue. Després de la cancel·lació de l'espectacle, es va decidir utilitzar l'escenari preparat per filmar dos vídeos abans de desmuntar-lo.

"I Was Made For Lovin' You" is a song by American hard rock band Kiss, originally released on their 1979 album, “Dynasty”. It was released as the first single from the album.

"I Was Made for Lovin' You" draws heavily from the disco style that was popular in late 1970s United States. According to legend, the members of the band were in conflict with their producers, who wanted the band to shift to a more commercial sound. In response, the band argued that lucrative disco songs could be written by anyone in a short time frame. The story goes that the demo of the song was completed within hours of the bet. When the single first came out, its mere existence was a betrayal to the rock populace and added fuel for the simmering “Disco sucks!” backlash that would boil over come the turn of the decade. Here were the authors of veritable odes-to-rockism “Rock and Roll All Nite” and “Detroit Rock City” laying down a mechanoid disco beat and singing helium-voiced harmonies. Sacrilege! Now that time has given us distance and disco has gone through various phases of retrospective reappraisal, it’s possible to consider this song on its own merits, divorced from the expectations of its authors and the rigid social dividing lines that turned separate musical genres into rival factions. It turns out, it’s actually a pretty awesome tune, and arguably one of the better singles Kiss put out.

The song is about a deep and passionate love between two people who were meant to be together. The lyrics express the intense desire of the singer to be with his lover and to give themselves completely to each other. The singer states that he was made for loving his partner and viceversa. The chorus is particularly catchy, with the repetition of the phrase "I was made for lovin' you, baby / You were made for lovin' me / And I can't get enough of you, baby / Can you get enough of me?" The singer is expressing how he can never have enough of his lover and how he hopes that they feel the same way. The song suggests a strong physical attraction between the two lovers, however, it is also clear that there is a deeper emotional connection between them, with the singer saying "Girl, I was made for you / And girl, you were made for me."

The music video was filmed on June 20, 1979, in Savannah, Georgia and was directed by John Goodhue. After the show was canceled it was decided to use the already completed stage to film two videos. 

 

PRINCE - I WANNA BE YOUR LOVER

“I Wanna Be Your Lover” és la primera cançó del segon àlbum homònim de Prince que dos mesos abans del llançament de l'àlbum es va publicar com a primer senzill. La cançó va ser el primer senzill d'èxit de Prince als Estats Units, aconseguint el número 11 al Billboard Hot 100 el 26 de gener de 1980 i va assolir el número 1 a la llista Billboard Hot Soul Singles durant dues setmanes. La cançó també va ser el single de debut de Prince al Regne Unit; no va ser un gran èxit, només va assolir el número 41 a la llista de singles del Regne Unit i quan Prince va intentar promocionar-la amb espectacles a Londres, es va veure obligat a cancel·lar a causa de la poca assistència. No seria fins a Purple Rain (1984) que Prince es faria gran a Europa.

Musicalment, és una cançó de funk cantada exclusivament en falset, que detalla l'amor de Prince per a una dona i com la tractaria millor que hi fan els homes amb qui està. També parla de la frustració que sent quan ella el considera "un nen". Naturalment, hi ha un element obertament sexual a la lletra, especialment a la tornada. La paraula "come" s'utilitza clarament com a doble sentit, i l'espai entre les dues últimes paraules de la línia “I wanna be the only one who makes you come...runnin’! (Vull ser l'únic que et faci venir... córrer!)" s’ha de llegir com un cop d'ullet astut.

La dona que va inspirar la cançó va ser Patrice Rushen, una cantant i compositora de R&B que posteriorment va escriure el gran èxit "Forget me nots". Quan Rushen va treballar en la programció de sintetitzadors a l'àlbum debut de Prince “For You”, ell n’estava enamorat i la cançó parla exclusivament d'ella. Li va oferir tant "I Wanna Be Your Lover" com "I feel for you" per cantar-les ella però Rushen les va rebutjar.

Prince tenia 21 anys quan va llançar aquesta cançó, tot i que afirmava que en tenia 19. Es feia veure a l’escenari, lluint un look extravagant (talons de plataforma, molt d'or i molta roba de pell). També va cridar molt l’atenció que quasi tot s’ho fes sol: escriure les cançons, producció, veu i instruments. El seu contracte discogràfic amb Warner Bros. li va assegurar la llibertat creativa, cosa que la majoria dels artistes van haver de guanyar amb el temps.

Aquesta va ser la primera cançó de Prince de la que es va fer un vídeo promocional. Era un clip bastant bàsic que mostrava Prince interpretant la cançó amb una varietat d'instruments diferents.

La música disco encara estava molt de moda en aquell moment, i el que més s’escoltava a les emissores de ràdio era "Bad Girls" de Donna Summer, "Good Times" de Chic i "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" de Michael Jackson. Amb un ritme adequat als temps "I Wanna Be Your Lover" es va fer un lloc entre les preferències del públic de discoteques i la cançó va arribar al número 2 a la llista Disco Action de Billboard. Aquesta cançó va fer saber al món que Prince era una estrella en evolució.

I Wanna Be Your Lover is the first track on Prince’s self-titled second album and two months prior to the album’s release was released as the album’s first single on August 24, 1979,. The song was Prince's first major hit single in the United States, reaching #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 on January 26, 1980, and peaking at number one on the Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart for two weeks. The song was also Prince's debut single released in the UK; it was not a hit, only reaching #41 on the UK Singles Chart and when Prince tried to promote it with shows in London, he was forced to cancel due to poor attendance. It would not be until Purple Rain(1984) that Prince would break big in Europe.

Musically, it is a funk song sung exclusively in falsetto, detailing Prince's love for a woman and how he would treat her better than the men she is with, and frustration that she thinks of him as "a child". Naturally, there’s an overtly sexual element to the lyrics, especially in the chorus. The word “come” is clearly used as a double-entendre, and the space between the last two words in the line “I wanna be the only one who makes you come...runnin’!” feels like a sly wink-nudge.

The woman inspired the song was Patrice Rushen, an R&B singer/songwriter who wrote the smash hit "Forget me nots". By the time she did some work programming synthesizers on Prince's debut album For You. Prince had a mad crush on her at the time and the song is about her. He offered both "I Wanna Be Your Lover" and "I feel for you" to Rushen, but she turned them down.

Prince was 21 when he released this song, although he claimed to be 19. He turned heads with his flamboyant stage look (platform heels, lots of gold and plenty of skin) and got a lot of attention for doing so much on his own: songwriting, production, vocals and instruments. His record deal with Warner Bros. ensured him creative freedom, something most artists had to earn over time.

This was the first Prince song to get a video. It's a fairly basic clip showing Prince performing the song with a variety of different instruments.

Disco was still very much the rage at the time, with airwaves being ruled by cuts like Donna Summer’s “Bad Girls,” Chic’s “Good Times,” and Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough.” With its prominent four-on-the-floor beat, “I Wanna Be Your Lover” found a home among club-goers, and the song hit #2 on Billboard’s Disco Action chart. This song put the world on notice that Prince was a star in the making.

 

SWEET - FOX ON THE RUN

"Fox on the Run" és una cançó de la banda britànica de glam rock Sweet. Va ser el primer senzill de Sweet escrit per la banda, en lloc dels productors Nicky Chinn i Mike Chapman, i va ser el seu 14è senzill en general. La cançó es va incloure al seu àlbum de 1974 "Desolation Boulevard".

Després del llançament de l'àlbum, la banda es va separar de Chapman i Chinn i va produir el seu propi material. El seu primer treball va ser una reelaboració de "Fox On The Run", que originalment va ser feta per Chapman/Chinn. Desafiant les prediccions del desastre, Sweet van demostrar ser bastant capaços de treballar per ells mateixos, i la nova versió de "Fox", amb una tornada brillant reforçada amb un ressò atrevit, es va convertir en un èxit mundial.

"Fox on the Run" és una cançó que tracta sobre una dona que s'esforça molt per encaixar i ser com totes els altres. El cantant reconeix que te una cara bonica, però no és com les altres. No vol saber el seu nom perquè no és la mateixa que va ser abans. La dona parla d’altres bandes, però només deixa caure noms de grups secundaris, la qual cosa fa que el cantant pensi que això ja ho ha escoltat abans i no li interessa conèixer-la. La tornada parla d'una guineu fugint, que sembla una metàfora de la dona que constantment intenta encaixar i impressionar els altres. Ella crida i tothom surt corrent, possiblement referint-se a com la gent se sent atreta pel seu aspecte, però no per la seva personalitat o el seu veritable jo. El cantant li aconsella que corri i s'amagui, i li suggereix que seria millor que fos fidel a ella mateixa i no s'esforcés tant en encaixar. 

La cançó critica aquells que intenten impressionar els altres sent algú que no són, i fomenta la idea que és millor ser genuí i fidel a un mateix. "Fox" es refereix en argot a una dona atractiva. Sembla que la lletra podria parlar d'una de les groupies de la banda.

SWEET - FOX ON THE RUN

"Fox on the Run" is a song by the british glam rock band Sweet. It was the first Sweet single written by the band, rather than producers Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, and was their 14th single overall. The song was included on their 1974 album “Desolation Boulevard”. 

After the album was released, the band parted ways with Chapman and Chinn and produced their own material. Their first effort was a reworking of "Fox On The Run," which was originally helmed by Chapman/Chinn. Defying predictions of disaster, Sweet proved quite capable on their own, and the new version of "Fox," with a bright chorus and bold echo, became a global hit.

"Fox on the Run" is a song about a woman who is trying too hard to fit in and be like everyone else. The singer acknowledges that she may have a pretty face, but the rest of her is out of place. He doesn't want to know her name because she's not the same as she was before. The woman talks about every band, but only drops second-hand names, which leads the singer to believe he's heard it all before and isn't interested in getting to know her. The chorus talks about a fox on the run, which seems to be a metaphor for the woman who is constantly trying to fit in and impress others. She screams and everybody comes running, possibly referring to how people are attracted to her looks but not her personality or true self. The singer advises her to take a run and hide herself away, suggesting that it would be better for her to be true to herself and not try so hard to fit in. 

The song criticizes those who try to impress others by being someone they are not and encourages the idea that it's better to be genuine and true to oneself. "Fox" being slang for an attractive woman, the lyrics are apparently about one of the band's groupies.  

 

WHAM! - EVERYTHING SHE WANTS

"Everything she wants" és una cançó del duo pop britànic Wham!, llançada originalment com a senzill l'any 1984 en una doble cara A amb "Last Christmas". Va ser escrita i produïda per George Michael, i va ser el seu tercer single consecutiu que venia més d’un milió de copies als Estats Units.

Wham! eren coneguts pel seu pop lleuger, però aquesta cançó parla d’un tema seriós, que presagiava el treball en solitari de George Michael. Va explicar el significat de la cançó en un programa de ràdio. Michael va dir: la lletra és sobre un home que porta sis o vuit mesos en un matrimoni que òbviament no va bé. S'enfronta a la "feliç" notícia de que arribarà un nadó. Així que es troba en una situació en què no pot fer marxa enrera. La cançó parla de la situació en què es troben molts homes, treballant molt dur per mantenir una família... i ho veuen com una mena de parany. És una situació que he vist. No és el tipus de cosa sobre la qual acostumo a escriure. Les nostres lletres solen estar molt més a prop del tipus de lletra pop lleugera que ens agrada, però va ser un inici en el canvi d’estil, i crec que va funcionar".

Hi ha un parell de moments destacats a "Everything She Wants", punts en què Michael es lamenta realment. I en aquests moments, les coses que diu Michael són fosques: "No puc treballar més dur del que ho faig", “Déu meu! Ni tan sols crec que t'estimi!" Però la cançó és enganxosa, i aquestes grans frases pasen desapercebudes mentre t’ho estàs passant bé. Així doncs, Michael agafa un moment complicat d’algú de la classe treballadora i el converteix en una cançó popular. Potser perquè és tan fosca, "Everything She Wants" no sembla haver-se quedat a l'imaginari popular com encara ho fan "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" i "Careless Whisper", però és aquesta barreja subtil entre els moments difícils i les ganes de passar-s’ho bé el que la situen com una de les millors cançons, on es demostra també la maduració que George Michael anava assolint, com es veurà en els seus posteriors treballs (per damunt de tot a “Older”). George Michael també va dir que "Everything she wants" és la seva cançó preferida de Wham!.

Quan aquesta cançó va arribar al número 1 del Hot 100, Wham! es va convertir en el primer grup des dels Bee Gees a tenir tres senzills número 1 del mateix àlbum. "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" i "Careless Whisper" van ser els singles anteriors de "Make it big".

WHAM! - EVERYTHING SHE WANTS

"Everything she wants” is a song by British pop duo Wham!, originally released as a single in 1984 on a double A-side with "Last Christmas". It was written and produced by George Michael becoming their third consecutive million-selling number-one hit in the United States.

Wham! was known for lightweight pop, but this song has a serious theme, which foreshadowed George Michael's solo work. He explained the meaning of the song to Dick Clark on his syndicated radio countdown show. Said Michael: "It's a lyric about a man who is six or eight months into a marriage which obviously isn't going well. He's faced with the 'happy' news of an arriving baby. So he's in that situation where he can't back out. (The song) talks about the situation (in which) many men find themselves, working really hard to support a family… and see it as a kind of trap. It's a situation I've seen. It's not the kind of thing I usually write about. Our lyrics are usually a lot closer to the kind of pop lightweight lyric we enjoy, but it's a departure, and I think it worked."

The are a couple of big-note moments on “Everything She Wants,” points where Michael really wails. And in those moments, the things that Michael is saying are dark: “I can’t work any harder than I do,” “My God! I don’t even think that I love you!” But the song is catchy, and those big notes make for fun sing-along moments. So Michael takes a moment of abject working-class terror and turns it into a slick pop song. That’s quite a trick! Maybe because it’s so dark, “Everything She Wants” doesn’t seem to stick around in the cultural imagination the way “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” and “Careless Whisper” still do. It may be precisely those dark moments that make “Everything She Wants” one of the best Wham! songs. Also George Michael thinks that "Everything she wants” it’s his favorite Wham! song.

When this song topped the Hot 100, Wham! became the first group since the Bee Gees to have three #1 singles from the same album. “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” and “Careless Whisper” were the previous chart-toppers from “Make it big”.
