Escrita per Anastacia juntament amb Sam Watters i Louis Biancaniello, i produïda per aquests dos últims, “I’m Outta Love” es va convertir en un èxit internacional, assolint el número u a Austràlia, Nova Zelanda i a la regió valona de Bèlgica. A Austràlia i Nova Zelanda va ser el senzill més exitós de l’any, i va arribar al top five a gran part d’Europa, incloent França, Itàlia i Suïssa.

El single va significar un debut triomfal per a Anastacia (nom complet Anastacia Newkirk), que havia passat anys intentant obrir-se camí a la indústria musical. Després de treballar com a ballarina a Club MTV i d’aparèixer en videoclips d’artistes com Salt-N-Pepa, es va traslladar de Nova York a Los Angeles el 1993 per perseguir la seva carrera de cantant. Va encadenar diversos intents fallits, però la seva sort va canviar quan el 1998 va competir al programa de talents d’MTV The Cut. La seva actuació destacada va cridar l’atenció de l’executiu d’A&R David Massey, que la va fitxar per al segell Daylight, dins d’Epic Records, el 1999.

Massey, conscient de la força de la seva veu, va reclutar Watters i Biancaniello per crear un tema amb l’energia d’himnes disco com “It’s Raining Men” o “I Will Survive.” En pocs dies, ja tenien l’esquelet de “I’m Outta Love.” Anastacia va connectar immediatament amb l’esperit de la cançó, descrivint-la més tard com una peça que “et fa moure i et fa feliç.”

Written by Anastacia alongside Sam Watters and Louis Biancaniello, and produced by the latter two, “I’m Outta Love” became an international smash, topping charts in Australia, New Zealand, and Belgium’s Wallonia region. In Australia and New Zealand, it was the most successful single of the year, and it reached the top five across much of Europe, including France, Italy, and Switzerland.

The single marked a triumphant debut for Anastacia (full name Anastacia Newkirk), who had spent years struggling to break into the music industry. After working as a dancer on MTV’s Club MTV and appearing in music videos for acts like Salt-N-Pepa, she moved from New York to Los Angeles in 1993 to pursue a singing career. A string of false starts followed, but her fortunes changed when she competed on MTV’s talent show The Cut in 1998. Her standout performance caught the attention of Epic Records A&R executive David Massey, who signed her to his Daylight imprint in 1999.

For her debut album “Not That Kind”, Anastacia envisioned a sound inspired by Sly and the Family Stone—funky, vibrant, and unapologetically big. Asked years later on Later… with Jools Holland whether the song was written about anyone in particular, she explained: “It’s about a lot of people in particular, not just one but probably many in my life who I wanted to have a love thing with but it wasn’t there.”
