"Atomic" és una cançó del quart àlbum d'estudi de 1979, "Eat to the Beat". Escrita per Debbie Harry i Jimmy Destri i produïda per Mike Chapman, la cançó es va llançar al febrer de 1980 com el tercer senzill de l'àlbum. "Atomic" va pujar ràpidament al cim de les llistes del Regne Unit després del seu llançament. Aquest és el senzill més venut de Blondie al Regne Unit, amb 1.180.000 exemplars venuts. La pista va experimentar un èxit renovat el 1994, tornant a entrar al Top 20 del Regne Unit al núm. 19 gràcies a un remix de P Diddy. "Atomic" es presenta com una cançó característica de Blondie, sorgida de les sessions de "Eat To The Beat". Inicialment concebuda per Jimmy Destri per buscar alguna cosa amb la màgia de "Heart of Glass", la cançó va experimentar una transformació quan Destri la va impregnar amb el que Debbie Harry va denominar el "tractament espagueti-western". La versió single de 1980 va representar un remix de la pista original. La versió de l'àlbum, que dura 4:35, present a "Eat to the Beat" i "The Best of Blondie" del 1981, compta amb un segment introductori inspirat en la cançó infantil "Three Blind Mice" i incorpora una pausa instrumental amb un solo de guitarra. La versió del single mesclara per Mike Chapman adopta per un enfocament diferent. Elimina la introducció de "Three Blind Mice" i substitueix la pausa instrumental per una repetició del vers, alterant així l'estructura i el flux de la cançó. Aquest remix ofereix una versió condensada i lleugerament modificada d’"Atomic", adaptant-se a les preferències de les audiències radiofòniques i contribuint a l'èxit comercial de la cançó com a senzill.

El vídeo musical dirigit per David Mallet, mostra el grup actuant a un escenari en el que sembla ser un ambient de discoteca post-apocalíptica. Debbie Harry impacta al vestir una bossa de brossa, un vestuari futurista punk que s’afegeix a l'estètica edgy del vídeo. Els membres de l'audiència a la discoteca llueixen també vestits igualment futuristes, contribuint a generalitzar el concepte de l'escena. La model de moda Gia fa aparicions, afegint un toc de glamour i intriga al món post-apocalíptic representat al film. La presència de Gia és notable ja que surt d'un cotxe al principi del vídeo i apareix esporàdicament al llarg, captivant els espectadors amb els seus moviments de ball i vestits estilosos, que inclouen una minifalda, ulleres de sol i una serp vermella al voltant del coll.

"Atomic" is a song from their 1979’s fourth studio album, “Eat to the Beat”. Written by Debbie Harry and Jimmy Destri and produced by Mike Chapman, the song was released in February 1980 as the album's third single. "Atomic" quickly climbed to the summit of the UK charts upon its release. This is Blondie's best selling single in the UK, with 1,180,000 in sales. The track experienced renewed success in 1994, re-entering the UK Top 20 at #19 thanks to a remix by P Diddy. Producer Xenomania also later reworked "Atomic" for “The Very Best Of Blondie” compilation album.

"Atomic" stands as a signature Blondie track, born out of the “Eat To The Beat” sessions with an air of serendipity. Initially conceived by Jimmy Destri to capture the magic of "Heart of Glass", the song underwent a transformation when Destri infused it with what Debbie Harry termed the "spaghetti-western treatment". With Harry's lyrical touch, "Atomic" evolved into a dynamic fusion of fun and cool, anchored by infectious hooks.

The 1980 single version represented a remix of the original track. The album version, spanning 4:35, found on both "Eat to the Beat" and 1981's "The Best of Blondie", features an introductory segment inspired by the nursery rhyme "Three Blind Mice" and incorporates an instrumental break featuring a bass guitar solo. The 7" version mixed by Mike Chapman takes a different approach. It removes the "Three Blind Mice" intro and replaces the instrumental break with a repeat of the verse, thereby altering the song's structure and flow. This remix offered a condensed and slightly modified rendition of "Atomic", catering to the preferences of radio audiences and contributing to the song's commercial success as a single.

The music video directed by David Mallet, showcases the band performing on stage in what appears to be a post-apocalyptic nightclub setting. Debbie Harry makes a striking visual statement by wearing a garbage bag, a punkish futuristic costume that adds to the video's edgy aesthetic. The audience members at the club are depicted in similarly futuristic attire, contributing to the overall vibe of the scene. The top fashion model Gia makes appearances, adding a touch of glamour and intrigue to the post-apocalyptic world depicted in the film. Gia's presence is notable as she emerges from a limo at the beginning of the video and sporadically appears throughout, captivating viewers with her dance moves and stylish attire, which includes a miniskirt, sunglasses, and a red slinky around her neck.
