“You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night)” va ser el primer single en solitari de Meat Loaf, publicat el 1977 com a part de l’àlbum “Bat Out of Hell”. This dialogue originated from Steinman’s stage production “Neverland”, performed five months before “Bat Out of Hell” was released. Three songs from the play—this track, “Heaven Can Wait,” and “All Revved Up with No Place to Go”—were adapted for the album.

Jim Steinman infused “You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night)” with vivid, intimate imagery, including lines like “fog crawling over the sand” and “your lipstick shining.” This lyrical style is reminiscent of Bruce Springsteen, who also paints detailed, atmospheric scenes in his songwriting.
