La adaptació cinematogràfica de "Tommy" es va estrenar el 1975, dirigida per Ken Russell, i va comptar amb Roger Daltrey en el paper protagonista. Ann-Margret i Oliver Reed van interpretar els pares de Tommy, mentre que Jack Nicholson va interpretar el paper de l'Especialista, Tina Turner va encarnar l'Àcid Queen i Eric Clapton va interpretar el sacerdot. "Pinball Wizard" és una cançó escrita per Pete Townshend i inclosa a l'àlbum de l'òpera rock dels The Who del 1969, "Tommy". La lletra ofereix la perspectiva d'un campió de pinball, anomenat "Local Lad" al llibret de l'òpera "Tommy", meravellant-se de les habilitats del personatge central de l'òpera, Tommy Walker. La cançó va ser interpretada per Elton John, i es va llançar com a single promocional als Estats Units el 1975, i comercial el 1976 al Regne Unit, arribant al número 7 a les llistes del país. No obstant, no es va llançar com a single comercial als Estats Units, de manera que no va poder entrar a la llista Billboard Hot 100. Malgrat això, va arribar al número 9 a la llista d'èxit de ràdio difusió dels Estats Units.

La versió de John de "Pinball Wizard" presenta un piano com a peça central de la cançó en lloc de la guitarra acústica de l'original. A la pel·lícula, el personatge de John està representat tocant la seva màquina de pinball amb un petit teclat de piano. Una interpretació diferent de la cançó apareix a l'àlbum de la banda sonora de la pel·lícula, on Turner interpreta el paper de l'Acid Queen. La versió original de la banda sonora ha aparegut en diverses recopilacions d'àlbums de Tina Turner des d'aleshores.

"Pinball Wizard" is a song written by Pete Townshend and featured on The Who's 1969 rock opera album, “Tommy”. The lyrics offer the perspective of a pinball champion, referred to as "Local Lad" in the Tommy libretto book, marveling at the skills of the opera's central character, Tommy Walker. The lyrics describe Tommy's prowess: "He ain't got no distractions / Can't hear those buzzers and bells / Don't see lights a flashin' / Plays by sense of smell / Always gets a replay.

The song was performed by Elton John, and released as a promotional single in the US in 1975, and in 1976 in the UK, it reached number 7 on the UK charts. However, it was not released as a commercial single in the US, so it couldn't chart on the Billboard Hot 100. Despite this, it did reach number 9 on the US Radio & Records airplay chart.

John's version of "Pinball Wizard" features a piano as the song's centerpiece instead of the acoustic guitar in the original rendition. In the film, John's character is depicted playing his pinball machine using a small piano keyboard. His adaptation includes additional lyrics specially penned by Townshend for the movie version, along with a subtle incorporation of musical phrases from the Who's 1960s hit "I Can't Explain" during the outro. Unlike most of the soundtrack's music, which showcased various combinations of the Who and some of the era's best session players, Elton John utilized his own band and producer Gus Dudgeon for the track. As of now, it stands as the only cover of a Who song to reach the top 10. Elton opened his 'Final UK Show' at Glastonbury in 2023 playing Pinball Wizard.

TINA TURNER - THE ACID QUEEN

"Acid Queen" is the third single from Tina Turner's album of the same name, preceded by "Baby, Get It On" and "Whole Lotta Love." Released in the UK in January 1976, the single was produced by Denny Diante and Spencer Proffer. It marked Turner's final single before departing from the Ike & Tina Turner Revue in 1976.

A different interpretation of the song is featured on the film's soundtrack album, where Turner plays the role of the Acid Queen. The original version of the soundtrack has since appeared on several Tina Turner compilation albums.
