"Romeo and Juliet" és una cançó escrita per Mark Knopfler i llançada per primera vegada a l'àlbum de 1980 "Making Movies". Més tard es va convertir en single el 1981. La cançó es va inspirar en una experiència personal de Knopfler amb una relació fallida amb Holly Vincent, la líder de Holly And The Italians. Produïda per Jimmy Iovine a The Power Station a Nova York, la pista porta un gran pes emocional amb la seva lletra introspectiva i el característic treball de guitarra de Knopfler.

El riff de piano de Bittan està prestat de la seva pròpia composició utilitzada a "Jungleland", una cançó de l'àlbum "Born to Run" de Bruce Springsteen del 1975.

Dire Straits va produir un vídeo per a "Romeo and Juliet" juntament amb dues altres cançons de l'àlbum "Making Movies": "Skateaway" i "Tunnel of Love". Aquests vídeos, dirigits per Lester Bookbinder, es van compilar i vendre en VHS sota el títol "Making Movies".

Dire Straits produced a video for "Romeo and Juliet" along with two other songs from the album "Making Movies": "Skateaway" and "Tunnel of Love." These videos, directed by Lester Bookbinder, were compiled and sold on VHS under the title "Making Movies."
