"Beautiful Day", llançada el 2000 com a primer single de l'àlbum "All That You Can't Leave Behind", s'inspira en la implicació de Bono amb Jubilee 2000, que advocava per l'alliberament del deute del Tercer Món. La lletra explora una narrativa sobre trobar joia enmig de la pèrdua. Va rebre elogis generalitzats i es va convertir en el 14è número u de U2 a Irlanda, el quart al Regne Unit i el primer als Països Baixos. A més, es va filmar una versió en directe de la cançó a la teulada de l'Hotel Clarence a Dublin un mes abans del llançament de l'àlbum.

El 2001, "Beautiful Day" va rebre un reconeixement significatiu a la 43a cerimònia anual dels Premis Grammy. La pista va guanyar tres Premis Grammy: Cançó de l'Any, Gravació de l'Any i Millor Interpretació de Rock per a un Duo o Grup Vocal.

The recording of "Beautiful Day" was a transformative process for U2, according to The Edge. Initially, the song underwent several iterations without a clear direction. The turning point came when Bono introduced the simple yet impactful lyric, "It's a beautiful day." This lyric, seemingly banal at first, sparked a creative surge when combined with the music. Brian Eno's contribution, particularly the Euro kick drum opening and keyboard line, provided a crucial direction for the song's development. 

The music video directed by Jonas Åkerlund, was filmed in August 2000 at Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport, where the album's photographs were taken. It features U2 walking around various locations within the airport, including a hangar, terminal, and runway, with scenes interspersed of the band performing amidst large jets taking off and landing overhead. The video includes cameo appearances by Middle East Airlines and Air France. An alternative video was also shot in Èze, France. Additionally, a live version of the song was filmed on the rooftop of The Clarence Hotel in Dublin a month prior to the album's release.

In 2001 "Beautiful Day" achieved significant acclaim at the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony. The track won three Grammy Awards: Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
