"Born to Run" és una cançó de Bruce Springsteen, llançada com a tema principal del seu àlbum del 1975 amb el mateix nom. Landau va acabar sent el seu manager.

"Born to Run" va ser la peça que va marcar la transició de Springsteen d'escriure cançons principalment per a actuacions en directe a crear produccions d'estudi. Després d'enregistrar diverses versions de la cançó, incloent-ne una amb un cor femení, en un estudi de baix pressupost, va passar a un estudi de gamma alta per perfeccionar-la més. Springsteen va ser ferm en no voler llançar la cançó fins que no complís els seus exigents estàndards.

En una entrevista del 2005 amb National Public Radio, Springsteen va reconèixer que "Born To Run" captura l'esperit de la seva joventut, però tenia com a objectiu escriure cançons que abordessin problemes i qüestions adultes. Springsteen va trobar inspiració en la música country, el blues antic i el folk, que li van oferir la intensitat que buscava per explorar temes madurs. No hi va haver cap vídeo musical amb el llançament original de "Born to Run", però el 1987, es va llançar un vídeo amb una interpretació en directe de la cançó a la gira Born in the U.S.A. Tour de Bruce Springsteen i la E Street Band 1984-1985 a MTV i altres canals. Aquest vídeo també incloïa clips d'altres cançons de la mateixa gira i va concloure amb un sincer missatge de "Gràcies" als fans de Springsteen. "Born to Run" is a song by Bruce Springsteen, released as the title track of his 1975 album of the same name. Regardless of its initial limited success outside the United States, it gained extensive airplay on progressive and album-oriented rock radio stations within the country. The single marked Springsteen's first entry into the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, reaching number 23 on the chart.

"Born to Run" captures the essence of youthful restlessness and the desire for adventure and freedom. Bruce Springsteen wrote the lyrics in his home in Long Branch, New Jersey, in early 1974. He recalled the moment when the phrase "born to run" came to him while playing his guitar on the edge of his bed. Initially, he thought it might be the title of a movie or something he had seen, but he was drawn to its cinematic quality, believing it would complement the music he had been imagining.

"Born to Run" made its debut on May 9, 1974, when Bruce Springsteen opened for Bonnie Raitt at Harvard Square. Rock critic Jon Landau, who was present at the show, famously declared in Boston's Real Paper: "I saw rock and roll's future - and its name is Bruce Springsteen." Landau later became Springsteen's manager.

"Born to Run" marked Springsteen's transition from writing songs primarily for live performances to crafting studio productions. After recording multiple versions of the song, including one with a female chorus, at a low-budget studio, he moved to a higher-end studio to refine it further. Springsteen was adamant about not releasing the song until it met his exacting standards.

In a 2005 interview with National Public Radio, Springsteen acknowledged that "Born To Run" captures the spirit of his youth, but he aimed to write songs that addressed adult issues and problems. Springsteen found inspiration in country music, older blues, and folk, which offered the intensity he sought for exploring mature themes. He expressed his commitment to songwriting as a lifelong endeavor, intending to create music he could perform even in his later years, beyond the youthful energy of "Born To Run."

At a concert held at The Spectrum in Philadelphia on December 9, 1980, Bruce Springsteen delivered an emotional performance of "Born To Run" in the wake of John Lennon's tragic death the night before. Springsteen began the show with a heartfelt tribute to Lennon, acknowledging his profound influence on the lives of many, stating, "If it wasn't for John Lennon, a lot of us would be some place much different tonight." Expressing the difficulty of performing amidst such tragedy, Springsteen and the E Street Band channeled their emotions into the performance, with guitarist Steve Van Zandt visibly moved to tears and keyboardist Danny Federici hitting his keyboard so forcefully that he broke a key. The concert concluded with a tribute to Lennon as the band closed with a rendition of "Twist And Shout".

No music video accompanied the original release of "Born to Run," but in 1987, a video featuring a live performance of the song from Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's 1984–1985 Born in the U.S.A. Tour was released to MTV and other channels. This video also included clips of performances of other songs from the same tour and concluded with a heartfelt "Thank you" message to Springsteen's fans. Additionally, in 1988, director Meiert Avis filmed a video of an acoustic rendition of "Born to Run" during the Tunnel of Love Express tour.
