Les imatges de la cançó —“Cold wind, tide moves in / Shivers in the salty air” (Vent fred, la marea entra / Tremola a l'aire salat)— capten l’anhel i el pas del temps, amb l’oceà com a teló de fons del record i la pèrdua. Shipley va revelar que la idea li va venir literalment mentre seia en una platja, traçant cercles a la sorra.

El productor Rick Nowels, conegut pels seus arranjaments exuberants, va donar al tema un so majestuós però íntim, enriquit pels teclats atmosfèrics de Thomas Dolby. El resultat és una cançó que uneix la lluminositat del pop dels 80 amb una profunda introspecció, equilibrant emoció i atractiu radiofònic.
